Delhi Should Become Global Knowledge Hub: Dharmendra Pradhan at DU’s 101st Convocation

623 Students Receive PhD Degrees; Over 1.66 Lakh Digital Degrees Conferred
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged students to take a pledge to make Delhi a global knowledge hub as he addressed the 101st convocation of the University of Delhi (DU). As the chief guest, Pradhan conferred digital degrees to 1,66,494 students and awarded medals to 10 meritorious students during the ceremony.
Highlighting DU’s legacy, Pradhan described the university as a “mini India,” noting that its influence extends to every district and village in the country. “Around seven lakh students are enrolled here across regular and open learning modes, and students from 85 countries study at DU,” he said.
Pradhan also praised DU alumna Rekha Gupta on becoming Delhi’s Chief Minister, calling it a proud moment for the institution. Remembering late Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, he acknowledged the contributions of DU alumni in shaping the nation.
The minister emphasized the role of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in transforming education and praised DU for being among the first institutions to implement it. He stressed that realizing the goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047 would require effective execution of NEP across the country under DU’s leadership.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, presiding over the convocation, encouraged graduates to balance personal aspirations with national interests. “The higher a tree grows, the deeper its roots must be; otherwise, it will fall in a storm,” he said, urging students to remain grounded while striving for success. He also took a pledge from attendees to uphold national integrity in their actions.
