Imperial College London Launches Bengaluru Hub with 75 Scholarships, 6 Fellowships to Boost UK-India Science Innovation

The India Connect Fund will support up to 25 joint research projects annually, focusing on cutting-edge areas such as AI, quantum science, and clean energy. The Future Leaders Scholarship, Imperial’s largest-ever scholarship program for Indian STEMB students, will support 75 scholars over the next five years.
Imperial College London has launched Imperial Global India, a new science and technology hub in Bengaluru to strengthen research and innovation ties with India. The hub aims to tackle global challenges like climate change, food and water security, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through collaborative initiatives.
This initiative aligns with the UK and Indian governments’ shared ambitions to deepen science and technology partnerships, driving economic growth, creating skilled jobs, and improving lives globally.
The Imperial Global India hub will support a range of programs, including joint research projects, long-term collaborations, student scholarships, collaborative PhD programs, and fellowships in fields like artificial intelligence, quantum science, biotechnology, clean energy, telecoms, semiconductors, health-tech, and advanced materials. It will serve as a platform to enhance UK-India cooperation, leveraging the strengths of both nations’ scientific and innovation ecosystems. The hub will also facilitate closer ties with industry and policymakers, building on Imperial’s existing partnerships with over 400 Indian institutions, including the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), IITs, and Christian Medical College Vellore, as well as industry collaborations like the one with Tata Steel for sustainable manufacturing.
Several flagship initiatives were announced at the hub’s launch. Additionally, six Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Global Faculty Fellowships, in partnership with the National Centre for Biological Sciences and IISc, will establish a London-Bengaluru AI in Science Network. A Global Challenge Lab will unite UK and Indian students to develop innovative solutions for UN Sustainable Development Goals, while a collaborative PhD program and Global Fellows initiative with IISc will promote doctoral exchanges between leading UK and Indian laboratories.
As part of Imperial’s global hub network, which includes Singapore, San Francisco, and Accra, Imperial Global India will foster high-impact partnerships with diverse stakeholders. Pending regulatory approval, the hub will initially be managed by a service provider appointed by Imperial College London. By building on Imperial’s existing strategic partnerships, such as with IISc, and engaging with joint UK-India government priorities, the hub aims to create a dynamic platform for innovation, education, and collaboration.
