The British Council and OneStep Global hosted a special pre-departure event for Indian students going to the UK this September. Titled “Great Aspirations, Great Careers, Great Britain,” the event brought together representatives from ten UK universities, industry experts, and outgoing students to discuss how UK education is preparing Indian students for future-ready careers. Participating institutions included the University of Reading, University of Sussex, Lancaster University, University of Bradford, Nottingham Trent University, Kingston University, University of Westminster and University of Worcester.

The event opened with an address by Michael Houlgate, Deputy Director, British Council India. He said, “Choosing the UK is about more than just getting a world-class education, it’s about joining a global community and becoming part of the living bridge that brings the UK and India closer together. You’ll be joining over 166,000 Indian students already studying in the UK, and becoming part of a vibrant, diverse, and inspiring academic community. My message to students is simple: be open-minded, embrace the new, and enjoy every part of the journey both in and beyond the classroom. Stay connected through your university alumni groups and the British Council’s alumni network and there’s a world of opportunities and friendships waiting beyond graduation.”

Aritra Ghosal, Founder and Director of OneStep Global, added: “Students today are making choices based on long-term value, careers, networks, and life outcomes. This event was about helping them connect the dots between education and employability, and making informed choices before they begin their journey.”
