LPU Student Wins Gold Medal in Asian U20 Athletics Championship; Check Details

LPU student Pooja Singh broke a 14-year-old national record by achieving 1.93 metres to secure gold at Asian U20 Athletics Championships 2026. The 19-year-old high jumper from Haryana has now qualified for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Read further to know more. 

LPU Latest News: A 19-year-old high jumper, Pooja Singh from Lovely Professional University has broke Indian high jump record. The Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES) second-year student, Pooja Singh from Haryana, secured a height of 1.93 metres and got gold medal at Asian U20 Athletics Championships 2026 in Hong Kong. After ending a 14-year wait for the country, she become the holder of new Indian athletics national record in women's high jump.

Pooja is from a small village in Haryana’s Fatehabad district. She was born to a daily wage earner. She overcame financial issues to secure title. Today, she holds almost every domestic high jump title, including one in Under-17, Junior, Under-20, and Senior National categories. Her 1.93-metre target in Hong Kong improved her previous international record of 1.89-metre gold-winning jump at Asian Championships in South Korea last year.

"The professional coaching, tailored training infrastructure, and international exposure at LPU gave me the self-belief to push past my older limits," she stated.
