Rajasthan Govt Bans Admissions to OPJS University, Churu, for 2024-25; Degrees Under Review
The UGC has issued a public notice announcing the Rajasthan government’s decision to ban new admissions at OPJS University, Churu, for the academic year 2024-25.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public notice announcing the Rajasthan government’s decision to ban new admissions at Om Prakash Jogender Singh (OPJS) University, Churu, for the academic year 2024-25. Additionally, degrees issued by the university over the past three years are under review by the state government.
According to the UGC notice, issued based on a communication from the Rajasthan Higher Education Department dated November 6, 2024, the decision has been taken to ensure transparency and protect students and stakeholders from potential discrepancies.
The review process targets degrees awarded in the last three academic sessions, following earlier allegations of irregularities in the university's academic practices. In December 2023, the UGC had already barred OPJS University from enrolling PhD students, citing violations of the prescribed norms for doctoral programs. At the time, the UGC cautioned students and parents against taking admission to the institution.
In a parallel development, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan Police has arrested Sumit, an accountant at OPJS University, for his involvement in issuing fake backdated degrees and mark sheets. The arrest marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation into fraudulent activities at the university. Sumit is currently being interrogated, and further details are awaited.
Students and parents are advised to remain cautious and verify the credentials of institutions before seeking admission.
