UGC to Students and Parents: Do not seek admission to any program offered by Sangai International University, Manipur, as the university's degrees will not be recognized or valid for higher education or employment purposes.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has officially removed Sangai International University, Churachandpur, Manipur from its list of recognized universities under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.

This action follows the university's repeated failure to provide necessary information for inspection despite multiple requests over several years.

UGC issuing a public notice has stated that degrees already issued or awarded by Sangai International University will not be treated as recognized or valid without UGC approval.

Sangai International University was established as a State Private University by the Government of Manipur and was included in the UGC list of universities in June 2015. However, despite repeated written communications from the UGC dated 03.07.2015, 12.08.2015, 21.10.2016, 01.03.2019, and 11.01.2021, the university did not submit the required information for inspection.

“Due to this non-compliance, the UGC issued a Show Cause Notice (F. No. 8-19/2015 (CPP-I/PU)) on 19.12.2023, demanding the university to explain why it should not be delisted. The notice was also sent to the Department of Higher Education, Government of Manipur, requesting immediate action and comments,” reads UGC Notice.

To date, the UGC has not received any response from either the university or the Government of Manipur. Consequently, the UGC has decided to remove Sangai International University from its list of recognized universities. The university is now prohibited from offering any UGC-specified degrees at the undergraduate, postgraduate, or doctoral levels.

Important Notice for Stakeholders:

Students and Parents: Do not seek admission to any program offered by Sangai International University, Manipur, as the university's degrees will not be recognized or valid for higher education or employment purposes.

For more details, stakeholders can refer to the official public notice issued by the UGC.
