UGC Launches Experiential Learning Courses on My Bharat Portal, Urges HEIs to Grant Credits Using Available Programmes

My Bharat Portal intends to establish an institutional structure for experiential learning by providing a variety of opportunities to participate in real-world initiatives inside both private and public sector enterprises. Such experiences assist them in understanding the difficulties experienced during the practical implementation of theories. 

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched the Mera Yuva Bharat Portal. The technology platform introduced by the department is designed to establish an institutional mechanism for experiential learning. This portal will offer a wide range of opportunities to engage in real-world projects within both private and public sector organisations. This will enable the students to know the challenges faced by students during the practical application of theory learned in colleges. 

The commission has encouraged All Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to consider the experiential learning programme available on the MY Bharat Portal for awarding academic credits to their students. 

Students who register on the portal will have a personalised profile page that will digitally record their achievements and project credits. These achievements will be further converted into educational credit points depending on the policies of their respective academic institutions. 

The commission released a notification outlining youth engagement with business and public sector hospitals. UGC further notified that in the last five months, over 22,000 young people have participated in various experiential learning programmes through the MY Bharat Portal. A survey of students who participated in these programmes has shown an overwhelmingly positive response.

Students who participated in the programme reported that their involvement in real-world projects helped them improve their communication skills, survey methods and understand how to work within structured organisations. It also enable them to be cognizant on future scenarios and career opportunities.
