University of Liverpool announces Campus in Bengaluru; To commence Academic Session by 2026

The University of Liverpool, Bengaluru will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Business Management, Accounting and Finance, Computer Science, Biomedical Sciences
The University of Liverpool, a member of the UK’s elite Russell Group, has secured University Grants Commission (UGC) approval to launch the first foreign university campus in Bengaluru, set to welcome its inaugural cohort in August 2026.
The University of Liverpool, Bengaluru will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Business Management, Accounting and Finance, Computer Science, Biomedical Sciences, and a pioneering Game Design program—unique for a UK university campus in India. The campus will also foster global exchange opportunities, enabling Harvard University students and UK-based students to engage in international study at this vibrant new hub.
The University of Liverpool has deep-rooted connections with Bengaluru and Karnataka, including a 20-year research partnership with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), which informed World Health Organization vaccine guidelines for Japanese Encephalitis, saving over 200,000 lives. Additional collaborations include the Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru and Hindustan Unilever, building on the University’s long-standing UK partnership with Unilever at the Materials Innovation Factory, a global leader in materials science robotics. The University also partners with Harvard University on joint research initiatives, including biomedical and public health projects, which will be extended through the Bengaluru campus to create new opportunities for Harvard students and faculty.
Beyond Bengaluru, the University collaborates with Delhi University and the All India Institute for Medical Sciences, where it recently launched a head and neck cancer initiative. New memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed with organizations such as the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, AstraZeneca Pharma India, Wipro, YouWeCan, and Dream11 to explore future collaborations.
The Bengaluru campus will embody the research-intensive ethos of a Russell Group university, driving fundamental, applied, and industry-focused research to address global and local challenges. Students, including those from Harvard participating in exchange programs, will benefit from a world-class curriculum, global mobility schemes, and strong employer connections, preparing them for successful careers or further study. The curriculum, designed to meet global industry standards and delivered by a diverse faculty, ensures graduates are equipped for the international job market.
Professor Tim Jones, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liverpool, said, “We are thrilled to receive UGC approval to establish Bengaluru’s first international campus, building on our strong partnerships, including with Harvard University. India’s vision to expand higher education is inspiring, and we are excited to contribute. Our Bengaluru campus will offer exceptional learning experiences, enhanced by collaborations with Harvard, and provide students with unparalleled opportunities to develop skills and drive global impact through research and innovation.”
British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron said, “The University of Liverpool’s Bengaluru campus is a milestone in the UK-India partnership, deepening ties with institutions like Harvard University. Education is a cornerstone of our collaboration, fostering innovation and empowering the next generation of leaders across both nations.”
Alison Barrett MBE, Country Director India, British Council, added, “The University of Liverpool’s Bengaluru campus, with its ties to Harvard, marks a significant step in UK-India educational collaboration. It aligns with India’s National Education Policy 2020, promoting internationalization and fostering transformative opportunities for students through cross-cultural exchange and cutting-edge research.”
Professor Tariq Ali, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Global Engagement and Partnerships, said, “This campus strengthens our global ties, particularly with Harvard, and creates exciting opportunities for education, research, and innovation. It will connect Bengaluru’s dynamic ecosystem with Liverpool and Harvard, delivering wide-reaching benefits.”
