J&K Degree College Reopening from February 1: The Jammu and Kashmir administration confirmed that the degree colleges in the Union Territory will reopen from February 1, 2021 onward. According to the latest reports, the administration decided to reopen colleges post the winter vacation while adhering to all the guidelines laid down by the government against COVID-19 spread. The official announcement made by the authoritarian state, “winter vacation for colleges falling under the summer zones of Jammu will end on January 31 with institutions resuming regular classes from February 1.” On the other hand, the winter vacation for colleges situated in Kashmir and the winter zones of Jammu will remain closed until February 14.  However, regular classes of institutions in those areas will begin from February 15, 2021, onwards.

The official announcement also confirmed that the reopening of degree colleges will be carried out under strict compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines laid down by the health ministry against the pandemic spread. Moreover, all students, teaching and non-teaching staff members are advised to wear masks on a compulsory basis inside the campus area.

Along with the degree colleges, it is informed that schools for Class 9 to 12 students will also reopen from February 1, 2021, in the Jammu region. According to an official order issued by Education Department Secretary BK Singh, all government educational institutions including recognised private schools are directed to resume regular classes in a staggered manner to ensure academic activities are held seamlessly. In the case of elementary classes, the order states that teachers will attend schools from February 1 while students will physically attend classes from February 8 onwards.
