BITS Law School's Centre for Research on Innovation Law for Shared Prosperity will be equipped with services like 5G Wi-Fi for modern communication networks and issues related to patents, standards and intellectual property licensing.Β
BITS Law School has inaugurated its Centre for Research on Innovation Law for Shared Prosperity (CRISP). The CRISP will be an area for students to enhance their research exploration in the legal dimensions of technology and innovation. The announcement was made along with the Innovation Law & Policy Fellowship at the BITS Pilani Mumbai Campus. The Centre will be a hub for research exploring the legal dimensions of technology and innovation.Β
The Innovation Law & Policy Fellowship at the Centre will enable researchers to grow their knowledge on wireless and ICT technologies. Today's communication networks are built on technologies like Wi-Fi, 5G, and 6 G. Important topics like patents, standards, and intellectual property licensing (IP) become more crucial for nations to concentrate on as these technologies advance. The Centre is conducting research to better understand and direct these areas. Its objective is to assist India in creating robust laws and policies as the nation transitions to an economy driven by innovation.
Objective of Centre for Research on Innovation Law for Shared Prosperity
The centre has four clear objectives as mentioned below:
- Raising awareness and building capability among Higher Education Institutions
- Curating and conducting programmes to educate industry professionals
- Developing thought leaders for the domain through the fellowship
- Building capability among the students of BITSLAW.
The founding Dean of BITS Law School, Dr. Ashish Bharadwaj, shared his delight with the commencement of the research centre, saying, βLegal frameworks for Intellectual Property are crucial to the development of technologies that are well-suited to society, and as the largest country in the world by population, it is essential that these work for Indians and also for the Global South. It is our ambition that the centre plays a role in enabling this β by educating key stakeholders, and by conducting research that can help guide both the government and industry towards a shared prosperity.βΒ
