Gauhati University has introduced a mandatory Common Entrance Test (CET) for undergraduate law admissions from 2026 academic session. This common exam will be applicable to all affiliated law colleges under Gauhati University. This test will be conducted for admission to 3-year LLB, 5-year BA-LLB, and BCom-LLB courses for merit-based selection.

Gauhati University Law Entrance Test: Gauhati University has announced an important update for candidates seeking law education in the state. The university will conduct a Common Entrance Test (CET) for all undergraduate law courses from session 2026 onwards. Further, Law students will no longer need to apply for separate college-level entrance tests. Instead, every student must clear this common entrance test for law to secure a seat. The university aims to ease the entire intake process through this Gauhati University entrance test. 

Gauhati University Law Admission 2026: Applicable Law Courses & Affiliated Colleges

The Gauhati University law entrance exam 2026 will be an entry-level exam for undergraduate legal programmes. It will cover admissions for the 3-year LLB course. It will also be accepted for admission to 5-year integrated courses like BA-LLB and BCom-LLB. This rule is mandatory for all law colleges affiliated with Gauhati University. No affiliated institution can conduct independent selection tests from the 2026 session onwards.

The university issued an official notification mentioning that it wants to build transparency into UG law admission process. A single exam will ensure fairness and uniformity for all applicants willing for LLB, BA LLB and other integrated law courses. Gauhati University will monitor the complete admission process under this system. The admissions will be offered based on merit in the entrance exam.
