Maharashtra School Reopening: According to the latest update, Aurangabad decided not to reopen school from today i.e. 23rd November. Earlier, the state government decided to reopen schools across the state, subject to the decision of local authorities, who could take the final call based on the prevailing COVID situation in the state. Earlier, School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad confirmed the news about the final decision about school reopening taken by local authorities. In line with this announcement, the Aurangabad city administration decided not to reopen schools in urban centres until January 3, 2020. However, schools in rural areas of the district will reopen today i.e. November 23, as confirmed by a senior official from the Education Department.
The latest update suggests that the Aurangabad District Collector confirmed the news that schools in urban areas of the district will remain closed until January 3, whereas in rural areas schools will reopen from November 23. Announcing the decision, officials also stated that "Over 800 schools and junior colleges in rural parts of the district will reopen from November 23, as there are problems in conducting online classes in these areas and the spread of coronavirus is also less in these parts.”
The reports also suggest that as part of the guidelines issued by the state government regarding the reopening of the schools, over 11000 school teachers were required to undergo RT-PCR tests before the reopening of schools in the district. After the tests were conducted, the results revealed that the majority of the teachers who tested positive for COVID infection were from urban areas. Therefore, the district administration has taken the decision to keep schools in urban areas of the districts closed for the next month. Apart from this, the district administration also confirmed that all residential schools will remain closed in the district, he said, adding that if such institutions wish to operate, they will have to keep their hostels shut.
