The center, which will be located in Mumbai, aims to position India as a global leader in cutting-edge media and entertainment content.

The Government of India will establish a National Center of Excellence dedicated to Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR). The center, which will be located in Mumbai, aims to position India as a global leader in cutting-edge media and entertainment content.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav highlighted that the growing creator economy is becoming a major force, and the new institute, modeled after prestigious institutions like IIMs and IITs, will likely be named the Indian Institute of Immersive Creators (IIIC). The institute will be established under the Companies Act, 2013, with the support of industry bodies such as FICCI and CII.

β€œThe AVGC-XR sector plays a crucial role across media, entertainment, film production, OTT platforms, gaming, and even sectors like health and education,” Vaishnav said. With the rapid advancement of technology and widespread internet access, the demand for AVGC-XR expertise is expected to grow significantly.

The center will offer specialized training programs for both amateurs and professionals, equipping them with skills in cutting-edge technologies. Additionally, it will serve as a hub for research and development, bringing together experts from various fields, including computer science, engineering, design, and art.

Beyond its educational focus, the center will also act as an incubation hub for startups in the AVGC-XR sector, providing resources for early-stage companies. Vaishnav emphasized that the National Center of Excellence will be a key driver of employment, especially for the youth, while promoting India’s intellectual property based on the nation’s rich cultural heritage.

This initiative is expected to significantly boost the creative arts and design sectors, transforming India into a global hub for AVGC-XR activities.
