IIM Nagpur New Pune Campus Gets ₹186 Cr Land from Maharashtra Government
IIM Nagpur is in talks to build a new campus for education, research and training on Moshi, Pune. The Maharashtra Government has approved a 28-hectare land in a meeting chaired by CM Devanra Fadnavis.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur has announced plans to build a new educational, research, and training campus in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Pune. The Government of Maharashtra has waived off INR 186 worth of land for the new campus in Pune. An official meeting for the purpose was headed by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday. The selected property for the campus is a part of 77.01 hectares of government land located in Mouje Moshi.
As per the state Government's financial assessment, the current market value of this 28-hectare land is INR 186.78 crore. The Maharashtra Government has decided to waive the occupancy fee for IIM Nagpur. This amount is to be added to the authorised share capital of the institute as the state government's financial share.
State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule provided further details on the reasoning behind this land allocation. He stated that the government is working with the specific goal of making Maharashtra a leading national center for education, industry, and practical skill development. By providing free land to an Indian Institute of Management, the state government hopes to give local students and the younger generation direct access to global standards of education and training.
The establishment of this new campus in the Pune region is expected to have a major positive impact on higher education, with an additional boost to the startup ecosystem. Officials from the Revenue Department believe it will provide excellent opportunities specifically for students in the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas. The project will provide a strong boost to management studies, academic research, new innovations, and industry-focused skill development programs which will in turn help build a strong, knowledge-based economy.
