Karnataka colleges are turning into a Covid hotspot, the latest is twenty-three students of Shivamogga's nursing college are found to be Covid-19 positive.

After twenty-three nursing students of Shivamogga district were found to be Covid positive, the health department officials have sealed the college campus.

While India is on alert due to Covid's new variant Omicron, many colleges in Karnataka are reporting new coronavirus cases. Earlier, 29 students from St Joseph College and 43 students from Kaveri Nursing College in Mysuru were found to be Covid positive. Most of the infected students of Mysuru colleges and Shivamogga college are from Kerala.

Karnataka government has tightened restrictions on Karnataka and Kerala border and every passing vehicle at checkpoints in these areas is being screened.

Earlier, SDM Medical College reported as many as 306 cases that spread after a freshers' party on the campus but the genome sequencing of more than 100 samples collected from the college confirmed that the students were not infected due to the new Omicron variant.

However, after two Omicron infected persons were detected in Karanataka, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is all set to conduct an emergency meeting with experts today afternoon to discuss Karnataka's strategy to curb the spread of this new variant of coronavirus.

“Preliminary reports indicate that though the new variant spreads (fast), it doesn’t require hospitalisation. However, we will get all the details once we get the complete lab test reports on Friday, which will also give us an idea on treatment protocols,” said Bommai, as quoted by The New Indian Express.
