AIIMS in Guwahati to be inaugurated next year: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
Assam's first AIIMS in Guwahati will be unveiled next year, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
While addressing an event at Namghar in Guwahati, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), which is coming up at Changsari in Guwahati, will be formally inaugurated and will be operational in 2023.
AIIMS in Guwahati will be the first AIIMS in the state.
Apart from this, the Chief Minister also announced some projects for his home constituency Jalukbari. He said 10 high schools will be set up in the Jalukabari area, along with model schools in Changsari and Rangmahal, as reported by News 18.
On the occasion, CM felicitated meritorious students from Jalukbari who passed their Class 10 and Class 12 board exams with flying colours this year.
He also said that the construction of the Palasbari-Sualkuchi bridge will start next year. A new bridge at Saraighat will also come up, for which construction work will begin soon.
Assam to set up 15 new medical colleges in 5 years
Last month, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government is planning to have a total of 24 medical colleges in the next five years to improve healthcare and the availability of doctors.
“When the proposed medical colleges are completed, the State will have 2,700 MBBS seats to significantly enhance the opportunity for medical education,” he added.
“Since then (1960), the population in the State has grown manifold and so has the number of students aspiring to pursue medical education. A second medical college in Guwahati and elsewhere in Assam has thus been a long-felt need,” the Chief Minister said, as reported by The Hindu.
