On Thursday, the Madras High Court disposed of a petition for extending the one-year Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) date that medical graduates must undergo to sit in the postgraduate medical entrance National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-PG).

" The court cannot interfere in every decision that is taken on the Administrative side. The issue is a personal grievance of the petitioner. If such a claim is entertained, it will open flood gates and every student who was not able to complete the internship on or before 30.09.2021, will approach this Court seeking a similar direction and it will only end up in chaos," Justice Ventakesh said.
The petitioner, who is a NEET-PG aspirant, was seeking an extension of the one-year CRRI date so that he could be eligible to write the NEET-PG entrance exam.

He said that he would be able to finish his mandatory internship by October 4 due to the pandemic situation.
The CRRI cut-off date has been already postponed from June 30 to September 30 due to the pandemic. As per rule, only those who finish their mandatory internship before or on this date are eligible to appear in the NEET-PG.  The government also informed the Madras HC that there is no scope for extension of the cut-off date beyond the set date.
