The government medical colleges and dental colleges in Jammu and Kashmir are facing faculty shortages, now the government decided to recruit professionals from outside the region.

J&K govt to recruit medical faculties from outside the region

Jammu and Kashmir's government has issued a government order that stated, the government has decided to recruit faculty members in medical colleges (gazetted level teaching posts) from outside J&K. To overcome the shortage of faculty members in the government medical colleges (GMCs) and dental colleges in the region, the GMCs can now hire candidates from outside J&K, provided such posts must have been advertised at least once and not filled up.

“In exercise of powers conferred by clause (II) of section (3) of J&K Civil Services Decentralization and Recruitment Act, 2010 (Act number XVI of 2010), the LG of J&K hereby excludes from the operation of the Act such categories by the Health and Medical Education Department from time to time for the purpose of appointment on academic arrangement basis under the provisions of J&K Medical and Dental Education (Appointment on Academic Arrangement basis) Rules, 2020 in all the GMCs of J&K subject to the condition that such posts have been advertised at least once and remained unfilled”, the order reads, as reported by Rising Kashmir.

As per the report, in the main hospitals in this region - GMC Jammu and Super Specialty Hospital Jammu, the faculty shortage is around 35% to 40% and the condition is worse in 5 GMCs of J&K i.e Rajouri GMC, Kathua GMC, Doda GMC, Baramulla GMC and Anantnag GMC.

GMC Rajouri: HoD Ortho dies of cardiac arrest

Dr Shalinder Sharma, the renowned Orthopaedic surgeon of J&K and the Head of the Department of Orthopaedic in Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, passed away after suffering a massive cardiac arrest Wednesday morning.

“He was brought to GMC's emergency room in an unconscious condition due to cardiac arrest during the intervening night of January 17 and 18. His condition was deteriorating. Immediately a team of doctors from medicine, anaesthesia, and surgery was pressed into the service for treating the senior doctor. Best possible efforts were made for over four hours but Dr Shalinder passed away at around 4:30 am,” Dr Mehmood said, as reported by Greater Kashmir.
