MMCRI Seeks NMC Approval to Increase MBBS Seats; Submits Fresh Proposal to Raise Intake

A year after expanding the MBBS seat intake from 150 to 200, the Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) recently submitted a new request to NMC, seeking clearance to increase the intake to 250 seats for the academic year 2025-26.
Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) has submitted a proposal to the National Medical Commission (NMC) seeking approval to raise seat intake to 250 for the academic session 2025-26. Last year, MMCRI MBBS seat intake was increased from 150 to 200 seats.
The proposal to increase MMCRI seat intake arises due to rising demand for good quality medical education and intense competition for government college seats as they are affordable and not every student can afford private medical college fees.
Reportedly, the MMCRI Dean and Director K.R. Dakshayani notified that the college has requested NMC to conduct the assessment of the infrastructure and resources in order to inspect the infrastructure and necessities for increasing the seat intake.
The director has notified that the college is equipped with the requirements, including extensive infrastructure development carried out during the centenary celebrations. At present, the institute has a total of 2,300 beds across its affiliated teaching hospitals, i.e. K.R. Hospital, Cheluvamba Hospital, and PKTB Sanatorium.
Dr Dakshayni further emphasised on significant upgrade over the past two years, including the construction of two new hostels, one for boys and one for girls, with 150 rooms in total. Each room at the hostel is attached to a washroom and has the capacity to accommodate three students. In addition, the MMCRI has constructed a new lecture complex with three classrooms to accommodate 300 students and two examination halls with a capacity of 500 students each.
