NEET PG 2024 SC Hearing Deferred Again; Plea Concerning Normalisation, Transparency to be Heard on May 20
NEET PG Supreme Court hearing seeking measures to increase transparency in NEET PG exam and the discrepancy in the normalisation process accepted for NEET PG result will be heard by CJI Gavai and Justice AG Masih on May 20.
NEET PG SC Hearing Latest Update: The Supreme Court of India has postponed the hearing seeking transparancy in NEET PG exams and the issue of normalisation process conducted for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduates (NEET-PG) to May 20, 2025. Originally scheduled to be heard in September 2024, the NEET PG Supreme Court hearing has been postponed several times already, leaving students hopeless.
The SC bench comprising CJI Gavai and Justice AG Masih has postponed the hearing petition of 19 NEET PG applicants, who seek the Supreme Court's intervention in NEET PG examination, including transparency issues, normalisation process and the last-minute changes in the exam pattern.
At first, the bench stated that the petitions were mostly on NEET-PG 2024 and were now devoid of significance. However, the petitioner's counsel argued that these cases reveal bigger concerns, such as how scores are calculated, discrepancies in answer keys, and problems with the marks awarded.
On the contrary, the National Board of Education (NBE) informed the bench that admissions to NEET PG 2024 have now been concluded, and sessions have already begun.
In the normalisation process, the examination is held on different dates with different sets of question papers. Since some papers might be harder or easier than others, a formula is used to adjust the scores, making it fair for everyone. The final rankings and merit list are based on these adjusted scores. However, several NEET PG aspirants have questioned the normalisation process, calling it incorrect.
NEET PG 2025 SC Hearing Scheduled for May 20
The bench agreed to relist the case with another similar case and scheduled the petition to be heard on May 20 and involving a challenge to the system of mark normalisation. The petition was last heard in the Supreme Court on May 9 by Justices BR Gavai (now CJI), and Justice George Masih.
