NEET PG 2025: SC Reviews PIL Over 'Ambiguous' Answer Key Amid Student Protests

NEET PG 2025 answer key SC hearing was conducted by the Supreme Court. The SC bench, comprising CJI Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran, transferred the petition to a bench led by Justice Pardiwala, who directed for more transparency in the NEET PG 2025 examination process.
NEET PG 2025 SC Hearing: The Supreme Court of India heard a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a group of students of the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET-PG) owing to the 'ambiguous' NEET PG 2025 answer key released by NBE at the official website. The petition challenges a correction notice issued by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on August 21.
The petition was first heard by the SC bench led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran. Later, it was shifted to a bench headed by Justice JB Pardiwala, who, in May, directed NBEMS to share the answer key, response sheets, and the normalisation formula in order to increase the NEET PG 2025 transparency and the betterment of students.
As per the media reports, the petitioners claim that the new method of releasing the NEET PG 2025 answer key is unclear, difficult to understand, and impossible to verify properly.
Students Question NEET PG 2025 Answer Key Format
As per the correction notice released on August 21, 2025, NBEMS changed its previous decision, highlighting that answer keys and NEET PG 2025 responses will only be shown using 'Question ID Numbers' from a master paper set of the entrance examination. The petitioners argue that because the NEET PG 2025 questions and options were shuffled for each student, they are unable to get a clear, question-by-question record of what they had attempted.
"It frustrates the very object of publishing answer keys and responses, which is to enable candidates to cross-check their answers, raise objections against discrepancies, and ensure transparency in the evaluation of a high-stakes national examination." The petition reads.
Further, the petitioners also pleaded that using only the Question IDs of NEET PG 2025 makes the answer key unclear and impossible to verify. They claim this violates Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution, denying the fair and transparent examination process.
In another development related to NEET PG 2025, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is expected to announce the NEET PG 2025 counselling dates and schedule soon at the official website. Students who have been named in the NEET PG 2025 AIQ merit list will be able to appear for the 50% All India Quota seats for PG medical admissions.
NEET PG answer key helps candidates to predict tentative score in the exam. Candidates do get an idea whether they will get high or low rank in the exam. If a candidate get high score in the answer key, he/she can shortlist top colleges/institutes for admission. If the answer key gets him low score, candidates can look for other alternatives. In short, the answer key helps candidates to make forward planning about the future course of action related to their career.
Answer key can be challenged for certain exams where officially the answer key is released by exam conducting body. As NBE doesn't release the official answer key for NEET PG exam, challenging the answer key doesn't hold any merit. Mostly in offline exams, the answer key can be challenged after paying certain sum of money.
