NEET UG Exam in Multiple Phases? Parliamentary Panel Suggests Big Changes to NTA
A parliamentary panel has recommended conducting the NEET UG exam in multiple phases across different states. Reportedly, the committee discussed major NEET UG reforms in a meeting with NTA to overcome logistical challenges. Meanwhile, the panel also suggested conducting separate exams for MBBS, AYUSH, and nursing and shifting them to a computer-based test.
Major NEET Reforms Proposed: The parliamentary standing committee on education has proposed major changes for National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination. The panel reportedly discussed the concerns on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. It has recommended conducting the NEET exam in multiple phases. This means the exam may happen on different dates in different states across the country. The committee aims to eliminate the logistical issues due to a single-day exam. As per media reports, top education and testing experts attended the review session at the Parliament House.
Panel Proposes to Conduct NEET Exam in Multiple Sessions
The primary goal of the meeting was to discuss NEET UG reforms. The committee talked to the officials of the National Testing Agency about conducting the NEET exam in multiple sessions and days like JEE Main. Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi and NTA Director General Abhishek Singh were present. Dr K Radhakrishnan also attended the meeting and shared his understanding.
Will NEET 2027 be Conducted in Multiple Sessions?
They also highlighted a ban on social media channels as it prevented paper leaks during the re-NEET 2026 exam on June 21. However, the panel noted that a single-day exam creates logistical burdens. Therefore, they suggested conducting NEET in multiple phases from next year.
Separate Exams Suggested for MBBS, AYUSH, and Nursing
The parliamentary panel on the NEET exam proposed a new solution for excessive crowds on NEET exam day. They suggested holding separate entrance examinations for different medical streams. The panel suggested conducting separate exams for MBBS, AYUSH, and Nursing. However, the NTA stated that this move is not feasible at the moment. The testing agency explained that all three programmes rely on NEET scores for admissions.
