Russia-Ukraine war: Dont travel to Kyiv, Indian Embassy to students and other Indians
Those travelling to Kyiv, including those travelling from western parts of Kyiv, are advised to return to their respective cities.
Indian Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine has advised Indians to remain wherever they are and not travel to Kyiv. There are thousands of Indians currently in Ukraine where Russia has launched military operations this morning.
As per reports, the Ministry of External Affairs is closely monitoring the rapidly changing situation in Ukraine. Its focus is on the safety and security of Indians, particularly students. MEA control room is being expanded and made operational on a 24x7 basis.
As per a fresh advisory issued by the Embassy of India in Kyiv, Ukraine all those who are travelling to Kyiv, including those travelling from western parts of Kyiv, are advised to return to their respective cities.
The advisory states that the present situation in Ukraine is highly uncertain. “Please maintain calm and remain safe wherever you are, be it in your homes, hostels, accommodations or in transit,” mentions the advisory.
“All those who are travelling to Kyiv, including those travelling from western parts of Kyiv, are advised to return to their respective cities temporarily, especially towards safer places along the western bordering countries. Further advisories will be issued for any updates,” states the advisory.
20,000 Indian students in Ukraine
India's Permanent Rep to United Nations, TS Tirumurti at the UNSC meeting on Ukraine this morning stated that over 20,000 Indian students are in Ukraine. He informed: “We are facilitating the return of all Indian nationals including students as we may be required.”
India has been operating special flights from Ukraine to India and one such flight landed at IGI Airport in New Delhi Airport from Kyiv this morning.
Earlier, this morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine adding that Moscow does not plan to occupy Ukraine. Russian President said the military action announced by him will seek to "demilitarize" Ukraine and came in response to threats from Ukraine.
Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine. Putin said: “I have made the decision of a military operation,” in a televised address. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that he tried to reach out to Putin, warning that Kremlin could “start a major war in Europe".
