Supreme Court has provided a conditional relief to the Indian medical students pursuing MBBS from China by allowing them to complete their clinical training in India.

SC allows foreign medical graduates to undergo clinical training in India

While China is not calling back the Indian medical students pursuing MBBS from China, the Supreme Court of India has provided a big relief to these students and others who have completed their medical degrees from foreign universities through online as they were compelled to come back to India due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

These students could not complete the required practical training as they were not able to join the clinical training in their respective campuses. The students and their parents have been protesting and demanding to allow them to complete their clinical training in India as the National Medical Commission (NMC) had said that it does not recognise a medical degree done only through online mode.

SC directs NMC to allow them to undertake clinical training in India

Underlining the significance of clinical training in medical education, a bench of Justices Hemant Gupta and V Ramasubramanian has directed the NMC to allow the students to undertake the clinical training in Indian medical colleges and thereafter recognize their degree instead of invalidating their degrees, as reported by TOI.

While providing a conditional relief to these students, the court directed the NMC, "To frame a scheme as a one time measure within two months to allow the student and such similarly situated students who have not actually completed clinical training to undergo clinical training in India in the medical colleges."
