Telangana to offer 2, 200 additional MBBS seats from current academic year

After the reservation of 85% of Category-B MBBS and BDS seats in minority and non-minority private medical colleges for local students, the state government has now said that a total of 2,200 additional MBBS medical seats will be offered for medical students from this academic year.

“We will start admissions in 8 new medical colleges from this year, which will add 1200 seats. Combined with the 1067 additional MBBS seats through 85 per cent reservation in B category medical seats in private medical colleges, over 2,200 medical seats will be available from this year. This is a Dasara gift from Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao to MBBS aspirants in Telangana,” State Health Minister, T Harish Rao said, as reported by Telangana Today.

Telangana government has recently released Government Orders (GO Ms 129 and GO Ms 130) amending rules of admission into MBBS and BDS courses in the B-category seats that stated that the government has reserved the 85% of Category-B MBBS and BDS seats in minority and non-minority private medical colleges for local students and remaining 15% of medical seats in Telangana will be open for students from across the country.

Centre not sanctioned any medical college in Telangana, said T Harish Rao

On Monday, he said that while 157 medical colleges have been sanctioned in the country by the Centre, not a single college has been sanctioned in Telangana.

While addressing the press conference at Hyderabad, he said, “In 70 years of united AP rule, three colleges were established but in seven years we got 17 colleges. We were able to get 12 new colleges in seven years. Eight medical colleges are being established in this academic year,” as reported by The Print.
