Odisha Colleges Reopening: The Odisha Government is all set to reopen the state colleges and universities from February 10, 2021, for the pre-final year undergraduate students and first-year postgraduate students after conducting online classes for months due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Pre-final year UG programme and first-year PG programme student are now allowed to attend the classes in person following the COVID-19 precautionary measures. Some of the guidelines released by the higher education department include staggered entry, maintaining respiratory etiquettes, wearing masks and more while attending classes. On January 11, 2021, the Odisha government commenced offline classes for final-year undergraduate and postgraduate progammes. Meanwhile, on January 10, the authority ordered to open the hostels for the students of final year undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, MPhil and other research scholars.

UGC Guidelines For Resuming Offline Classes

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a revised set of guidelines recently on resuming offline classes in colleges and universities in order to contain the COVID-19 spread. The guidelines suggest smaller class sizes in order to comply with COVID-19 social distancing norms. Adhering to all the precautionary released by the health ministry against the pandemic spread is a must while attending classes. Several activities including visits of outside experts to the campus, study tours, and field visits are still restricted. According to the UGC Guidelines, colleges and universities are asked to provide study materials online. The institutions are also asked to provide access to e-resources to the students who would prefer studying online while staying at home.
