Odisha schools and colleges to remain closed until July end due to the increasing cases of the pandemic outbreak in India. According to the reports, the Odisha government took this decision in the wake of the excessive spread of the novel coronavirus. Odisha Chief Secretary AK Tripathy specified the details while announcing the Lockdown 5.0 guidelines. Earlier the chief minister Naveen Patnaik announced the date of state educational institutes to be closed till June 17, 2020. This has however been extended until July now.

The reports suggest that Odisha recorded the highest spike in the cases on June 1, 2020. Of the new 156 cases, 153 were detected from quarantine centres, while three others were found positive during COVID-19 contact tracing. The fresh cases were observed in 19 of the 30 districts in the state.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government not yet decided to ease the lockdown norms for the citizens following this. To tackle the rising coronavirus cases, the Government announced to enforce a two-day shutdown in 11 districts every week until June. All social congregations are to be avoided in the districts. 

Mr Tripathy said, "No religious congregation will be permitted till June 30 this year and religious institutions will remain closed till the end of June in the state. School, colleges and coaching institutions will remain closed in the state till July 31.”

He also added, "Night curfew will continue in the state from 7 pm to 7 am, instead of 9 pm to 5 am as announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs"

The government also planned to keep the shopping malls, religious places and educational institutes closed. The government is also imposing strict fine of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 on the people who are being caught without wearing masks.
