Odisha will be conducting final semester examination for UG and PG courses by September 30, the government announced.

The Odisha Government has announced that it has decided to complete the final semester examinations for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses by September 30, 2020. The government also said that it is also planning to announce the results before October 31, 2020, as per the UGC guidelines.

Odisha Higher Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo said that the exams can be conducted in offline/blended/multiple-choice/open book/OMR mode. However, the Universities and autonomous colleges will be given the liberty to make their own decision on when to hold the exams.

In the meeting, it was also decided that the government will conduct a special examination in December 2020 for those students who cannot appear for the examination in September due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the back papers of final semester students whose results will be declared by October 31.

Berhampur University had conducted the Undergraduate exams before the coronavirus hit the state. The varsity will only conduct the Postgraduate exams now. Fakir Mohan University and Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya have also completed most of the Undergraduate exams before the COVID-19 restrictions come into the force.

The Supreme Court has earlier in its order said that the University Grants Commission (UGC) guideline for the mandatory final examination is correct. Final semester/year students cannot be promoted without exams. After the Supreme Court order, the government has decided to conduct examinations for both UG and PG.
