The Odisha State Government is all set to provide smartphones free of cost to families residing in the ‘Swabhiman Anchal’ region. On Tuesday, i.e. November 17, 2020, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik interacted with people of the region via video conferencing, where he made the announcement of distributing free smartphones. The Chief Minister also added that smartphones will allow the children to learn online and connect with people residing in other parts of the country. According to the reports, CM Patnaik expressed his compassion towards the region and said that the ‘Swabhiman Anchal’ region was close to his heart and that he would make all the efforts necessary to make it a leading region in the state of Odisha.

The minister further added that the area presently has four mobile towers and three more towers with 4G facilities will be conducted soon. Known primarily for its turmeric cultivation, the CM said that arrangements are being made for increased turmeric production, processing and marketing across the country. Among other projects soon to be functional in the region include projects related to pipe water supply, electricity supply and lift irrigation projects.

Special Packages for ‘Swabhiman Anchal’ Region

Earlier in 2018, the CM also announced a special package of Rs.100 crores for the region which was later increased to Rs. 215 crores. The Chief Minister said that the extended package focuses on education, communication, health and livelihood, irrigation, drinking water, banking, housing and exposure visits for the mothers of Mission Shakti. The CM also announced that 100 crores will be utilised in constructing roads in the region which will include concrete roads in every village bridge in the region.
