Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has formally launched a new scholarship scheme for Scheduled Caste students. The new scheme named, ‘Dr. BR Ambedkar Post Matric Scholarship Scheme’ will help more than 3 lakh poor Scheduled Caste category students every year for the post-matric level.
The Chief Minister took to Twitter to make the announcement, “Today on #ValmikiJayanti we formally launched Dr BR Ambedkar Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for providing 100% fee waiver for our SC students. This will benefit over 3 lakh poor SC students every year & they will not be required to pay any upfront fees to Govt/Private Institutes.”
The newly launched scholarship called Dr. BR Ambedkar Post-Matric SC Scholarship Scheme will ensure that poor students get a free higher education, which the Centre unfairly deprived them of with abrupt withdrawal of Rs 800 crore aid to the state. Along with launching this scholarship for poor students, Punjab Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 50 crore at Amritsar’s Ram Tirath to mark Valmiki Jayanti.
The Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated the Ram Tirath Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and also gave a go-ahead for setting up a skill development center to prepare Dalit students for competitive exams.
While speaking to the reporters, CM Singh also informed that the scheme that was launched for SC students was without any financial contribution from the center. This scheme will provide a 100 percent fee waiver to SC students. Moreover, under this scheme, the institutes of the state will also provide free education to SC students the scheme against direct subsidy from the state government.
Meanwhile, the state government has decided to conduct the examination for recruitment of ETT or Elementary Teacher Training, for the post of teachers across the state on November 29, 2020. The posts were notified in March 2020. The exam is being conducted for 2364 posts.
