CSIR NET December 2026 Notification

CSIR NET Notification: National Testing Agency has already announced that December session CSIR NET exam will be conducted on December 20 and 21, 2026. CSIR NET December 2026 Exam Dates Confirmed

The most important confirmed detail is CSIR NET December 20 and 21 exam date. However, detailed application dates, last date to apply, fee-payment deadline, correction window and other registration-related dates are yet to be announced in December 2026 bulletin. Official CSIR NET website currently lists June 2026 examination-related notices and documents, while CSIR-HRDG website has separately published notice regarding introduction of Joint CSIR-UGC-DBT JRF-NET from December 2026 cycle.

Will CSIR NET Eligibility Criteria Change?

At present, there is no official confirmation that general CSIR NET eligibility criteria will be changed for December 2026. June 2026 bulletin required General/Unreserved and General-EWS candidates to have at least 55% marks in a Master's degree or equivalent and OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD/PwBD and Third Gender candidates required at least 50% marks. Candidates pursuing their Master's degree or awaiting their final-year results were also permitted to apply provisionally.

For JRF, CSIR NET June 2026 bulletin prescribed an upper age limit of 30 years, with applicable relaxations for specified categories, women candidates, research experience and armed forces service. There was no upper age limit for candidates applying for Assistant Professor or PhD admission.

Will CSIR NET Exam Pattern 2026 Change?

A change in examination framework is possible, particularly for merged Life Sciences-Biotechnology exam, but candidates should distinguish between confirmed changes and assumptions.

As of now, CSIR NET structure is a three-part objective-type examination conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. In June 2026 Life Sciences paper had 20 questions in Part A, 50 in Part B and 75 in Part C. Candidates were required to attempt 15, 35 and 25 questions respectively, with 200 marks in total and 25% negative marking.

For merged CSIR-UGC-DBT JRF-NET, however, CSIR-HRDG has already indicated that question paper will have adequate optional questions from both traditional Life Sciences and Biotechnology domains. The stated objective is to give candidates from different academic backgrounds enough questions from their areas of expertise.

The official notice further says that the assessment will focus on conceptual understanding, analytical ability and research aptitude in broader fundamental concepts, rather than narrowly specialised subject knowledge. So, Life Sciences and Biotechnology aspirants should pay particular attention to detailed pattern and syllabus when December CSIR NET notification 2026 is released.
