CTET 2025 Update: No Exam for Classes 9 to 12 before 2027; NCTE scraps four-level test
CTET exam will not be conducted for Classes 9 to 12 until 2027, as the NCTE has ruled out four-level tests under the Central Teacher Eligibility Test. The NCTE will consider the CBSE CTET exam for four levels after 2027. The CBSE will soon conduct the CTET 2025 exam for Classes 1 to 8.
No CTET for Classes 9 to 12 Before 2027
CTET 2025 Exam Latest News: The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has clarified that the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) exam will not be conducted for Classes 9 to 12 before 2027. There will not be a four-level CTET exam for teachers at present. The clarification came from NCTE chairperson Pankaj Arora after some media houses reported that the CTET exam would now be conducted for Classes 9 to 12. Arora further stated that the Council has neither issued any statement in this regard nor asked the CBSE to conduct the CTET at four levels. The NCTE will consider making such changes after 2027, that is, when the first batch of ITEP (Integrated Teacher Education Programme) graduates. NCTE is a statutory body of the Indian Government that works to ensure that the teacher education programs in India align with the educational policies.

The CTET 2025 exam will be conducted soon for Classes 1 to 8. The CBSE is expected to release the official CTET notification in August 2025. The 12th edition of the CTET exam is likely to be held in December 2025. There will be two papers in the CTET exam – Paper 1 and Paper 2. The CTET Paper 1 is for candidates who want to teach Classes 1 to 5 and Paper 2 is for candidates who want to teach Classes 6 to 8.
What is ITEP?
ITEP stands for Integrated Teacher Education Programme, which was launched in 2023. The ITEP teaches candidates about teacher education along with the disciplinary subject chosen by them. The first batch of ITEP will be completed in 2027, and these graduates will be able to teach at all four levels of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s 5+3+3+4 school structure.
