Schools for Classes 1 to 8 not to reopen after October 15: Madhya Pradesh Government
Schools in Madhya Pradesh not to reopen for Classes 1 to 8 after October 15, the state government announced.
Considering the rising coronavirus cases in the state, the Madhya Pradesh government has restricted schools from reopening for Classes 1 to 8 after October 15. School Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar has said that the MP government has put on hold reopening of primary and middle schools in the state for now.
While speaking to PTI, Parmar said, “We are not going to take the risk of reopening primary (Classes 1 to 5) and middle (Classes 6 to 8) schools after October 15 for now.” Moreover, reopening schools for primary and middle classes is too risky and if something happens to a child, the state government will be at the receiving end, he added.
The state government allowed the reopening of schools for classes 9 to 12 on a voluntary basis from September 21 with consent from parents. Around 1.50 lakh schools - government and private started functioning from the third week of September in the state. But with the increase in the number of COVID cases, the state government seems concerned that the reopening of schools may trigger a spate of infections.
Many parents are not willing to send their children to schools for partial classes in secondary and higher secondary schools amid pandemic.
Nitin Saxena, Bhopal district education officer said that out of 40,000 students studying in 132 government secondary and higher secondary schools, parents of only 5,000 students had given consent to send their children for partial classes.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad has said that the schools in the state will not reopen before Diwali.
