Schools in Uttarakhand not to open until September 30, the state government announced.

The Uttarakhand Government has announced that all the schools in the state will remain closed until September 30, 2020. The state government while deferring the Health Ministry's permission to partially open the schools for students of Classes 9 to 12 from September 21, said that the number of coronavirus cases is increasing in the state, and considering that it is not feasible to open the schools. The Director of Secondary Education on Tuesday announced the decision while insisting that the classes would continue online.

The order released reads, "In view of the increasing coronavirus cases in the state, Uttarakhand will not resume schools on September 21, on the instruction of the state education minister Arvind Pandey, now education will be conducted from home online classes till the end of this month."

Meanwhile, Haryana has already conducted trial classes in two of the schools of Karnal and Sonipat. The students will be able to voluntarily attend the classes. The school has also recorded the trial classes and shared the sample with other schools, so as to ensure SOPs for conducting classes.

Unlock 4.0 Guidelines released by the Ministry of Home Affairs has permitted the partial opening of schools and colleges from September 21, 2020. For schools, the regular classes will remain suspended till September 30. Students, however, of classes 9 to 12 are permitted to attend school on a voluntary basis to seek guidance from teachers. No more than 50 per cent of teaching and non-teaching staff is permitted inside the schools.

On September 8, the Health Ministry had released detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) or guidelines for the re-opening of schools. The guidelines also list out the manner of sanitisation, the conduct of classes and the required infrastructure each school needs to have at the ready before September 21.
