DU to frame policies on social media use by employees

The university has established a Committee led by Chairman Prof Sanjeev Singh, Director DUCC, to frame policies for varsity employees for using various social media platforms.

The University of Delhi has constituted a Committee to frame policies on the use of social media by varsity employees.

“The competent authority of the university has constituted a committee pertaining to the use of social media platforms in respect of the employees of the university for framing of such policy of the university,” said DU's official notification.

The six-membered Committee will be led by Prof. Sanjeev Singh, Director, DUCC. He will be the Chairman of the Committee. Other members include Prof Ajay Jaiswal, Principal, SOL, Dr Kshitij Kumar Singh, CLC, Manish Manocha, Advocate, Anup Lather, PRO University of Delhi, and Dr Manisha, Department of History.

As per reports, the faculty members are not pleased with the decision of the university and they alleged that the step has been taken to keep surveillance on academics who write posts critical of the university on social media.

“Many of us have been writing on our social media platforms about the displacement of teachers, and delay in promotions among other critical issues. Such a policy could curb our right to expression,” a DU teacher said, as reported by The Print.

DU Scholarship for AY 2023-24

The university has uploaded the list of various scholarships for the AY 2023-24 on the official website along with the specimen copy of the application form and a copy of the rules and regulations governing the same.

"In this regard, you are requested to give wide publicity among the students of your Faculties/Departments/Centers/Colleges and forward the duly filled and recommended application forms along with the required documents to the Scholarship Cell positively by January 15, 2024," reads DU's official notification.
