IIT Kharagpur Offers Free GATE & JAM Preparation Resources; Launches AI-Powered Tutor

IIT Kharagpur has launched NDLI-FERMI AI Tutor and free GATE-JAM preparation platform to help students access quality learning resources and prepare for competitive exams.

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has launched an AI-powered learning assistant and a free online preparation platform for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM). This initiatives aim to make quality education and competitive exam preparation more accessible to students across India. Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar launched these two initiatives at IIT Kharagpur Research Park in Rajarhat, Kolkata. This launch was part of institute's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

IIT Kharagpur Launches Free GATE-JAM Preparation Platform

IIT Kharagpur has also introduced a free online preparation platform for students appearing for GATE and JAM. The initiative aims to reduce students' dependence on expensive coaching programmes and improve access to higher education opportunities. This platform will use institute's academic expertise and digital learning resources to support candidates preparing for these competitive examinations.

It is expected to benefit students from rural areas and economically disadvantaged backgrounds who may not be able to afford private coaching. By providing free online preparation resources, the initiative aims to make exam preparation more accessible to a wider group of students.

GATE is conducted for admission to postgraduate engineering and related programmes, as well as for certain recruitment opportunities. JAM is held for admission to postgraduate science programmes offered by participating institutes.

What is NDLI-FERMI AI Tutor?

NDLI-FERMI AI Tutor has been developed in collaboration with Fermi AI and integrated with National Digital Library of India (NDLI). It will provide personalised academic assistance to registered users free of cost. Unlike regular AI tools that mainly provide direct answers, AI tutor is designed to help students understand concepts and solve problems independently. It guides learners through questions, hints and explanations based on the context of their queries.

This platform also offers a ‘Scan & Ask’ feature. Using this feature, students can get help with questions related to Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. It can help learners identify mistakes, understand difficult concepts and improve their problem-solving skills. As per institute's release, National Digital Library of India is supported by Union Ministry of Education. It serves more than one crore learners and provides access to over 130 million learning resources.
