Telangana govt to add 247 more PG medical seats
The Ministry of Health has prepared a plan to add 247 additional PG seats to Telangana govt medical colleges during the academic year 2022-23.
Currently, there are 967 PG seats in government medical colleges in Telangana and Health Ministry is contemplating adding 247 additional PG seats from the academic year 2022-23.
Reportedly, the health director has sent a proposal to the National Medical Commission (NMC) for adding a total of 247 PG seats in government medical colleges in Telangana. The proposal is to add the following number of seats to these GMCs- Suryapet Medical College 25, Siddipet medical college 80, Nalgonda Medical College 30, Nizamabad Medical College 16, Osmania Medical College 32, Mahabubnagar Medical College 10, Kakatiya Medical College 10, Adilabad AIIMS Medical College 22 and Gandhi Medical College 22, as reported by The Siasat Daily.
As per reports, the health department officials are expecting NMC's nod soon. Director of Medical Education Dr Ramesh Reddy said, βDuring the past 8 years, 430 PG seats were increased. The State Government is giving top priority to the development of infrastructure in government hospitals due to which there are no hurdles in the increase of PG seats in medical colleges.β
Telangana to set up medical colleges in each district
Health Minister T Harish Rao had recently said, the state has set a goal to set up at least one medical college in each district by 2023. βThe Chief Minister has decided that all the districts of the state will have Government Medical Colleges. These would be established over the next two years. This calendar year, we are going to start eight new medical colleges at Asifabad, Bhupalpally, Vikarabad, Sircilla, Jangaon, Kamareddy, Karimnagar and Khammam,β he said.
After this goal is achieved, MBBS seats in the state will increase to 5240, PG seats to 2500, and Super Speciality seats to 1000.
