Tamil Nadu government is all set to provide free cellular data to the college students. According to the reports, considering the ongoing pandemic situation, the Tamil Nadu Government decided to provide free 2 GB Data per day to college students from the state for the period of the next 4 months. The government is providing this starting from January to April 2021 for online learning or classes. With COVID-19 guidelines still in place across the state, colleges are likely to remain closed or have partial reopening with irregular classes. To avoid gaps in the teaching-learning process, the government decided to give students access to mobile data. 

According to the announcement made by the state government, college students who are enrolled in government-aided arts and science colleges, polytechnic colleges, engineering colleges will be able to enjoy the free data availability scheme. In addition to this, students who are part of a scholarship funded private colleges are eligible for the scheme. Tentative estimates indicate that the scheme would benefit as many as 9.69 lakh students. 

Talking about the reopening of Tamil Nadu colleges, postgraduate level colleges are opened in Tamil Nadu for regular classes starting from December 2, 2020, onwards. Following this, the state government also allowed the opening of Medical Colleges for both undergraduate and postgraduate students from December 7, 2020, onwards. Now, the permission to reopen colleges for final year students pursuing their undergraduate programmes is also released and the classes will commence for these students starting February 1, 2021.
