Tripura to not get AIIMS, proposal is sent for RIMS
The Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha had recently announced that Tripura will get an AIIMS soon, however, the secretary of the state health department has confirmed now that there will be no AIIMS in the state.
It was expected that after Assam another northeast state to get the AIIMS is Tripura, which was also confirmed by the Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha. However, now Health Secretary Dr Debashis Basu said that AIIMS will not be established in the state and instead the state has sent a proposal for RIMS. Even if the state will get the nod to establish RIMS, it can be set up only after 2023, he added.
Highlighting the department's success and plans, Health Secretary Dr Debashis Basu said, "Tripura Medical College and Dr. BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital can become Manipur's like Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) very soon. A proposal for RIMS has already been sent to the central government for approval."
He said this while talking to the media and sharing the success of the work of the state health department in the last four years.
He said that instead of AIIMS, a proposal for reimbursing for RIMS at the state has been sent to the central government, as reported by Tripurainfo.com.
The talks were going on to develop AIIMS in the state and there was a discussion around finding land for it in Hanpania, Bodhjungnagar, and Ambasa. He also confirmed that there is no decision to build a medical college in ADC for now. He didn't say anything about when and where the dental college will be set up in Tripura as announced by the new chief minister Dr Manik Saha.
In a press conference called in Mahakaran on Tuesday, the secretary of the health department also said that there is no lack of sincerity of the state government to protect the health of the people of the state. Efforts are being made all over the state to reach as many health services as possible to people in remote areas. He said that the state currently has 6 state-based hospitals, 6 district-based hospitals, 14 sub-divisional hospitals, 21 social health centres, 118 primary health centres, and 199 sub-health centres in order to provide health services to the people of the state.
