The West Bengal Private Schools Association has decided to seek a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Education Minister Partha Chatterjee to request the state government to reopen the campuses that have been kept closed since March owing to a coronavirus outbreak.

School management members and principals of more than 100 schools have also deliberated on the parents’ agitation and have decided to draw up a roadmap to reach out to them.

“While Schools have been given a go-ahead to begin physical classes in the state like UP, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, the situation in West Bengal is entirely different. The possibility of schools to reopen in the state is likely from December, once the Chief Minister takes the final call,” told a school principal to a media house.

He further added that with the prolonged closure of schools the progress of students appearing for the board exams. If Class 10th and 12th exams are conducted on time, the students require to attend practical classes and schools should hold doubt-clearing sessions.

CBSE and CISCE Board has already reduced the syllabus, the state Board is yet to make any such changes.

Among other topics discussed were the implementation of the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and SOPs that are to be adopted by schools before reopening the classrooms.

According to the latest update, the West Bengal Government extended the lockdown of schools, colleges and other educational institutes until November 30, 2020. Taking the decision amid the ongoing pandemic situation, the WB Government stated that ‘physical assemblies’ in schools and other educational institutes would be disallowed.
