I was born in a middle class family with high values and morals in the year 1985. My parents felt blessed to have me as they had lost a child earlier, so I was the most pampered one. My father used to work for a private limited company yet he always managed to fulfill all my wishes and desire. I was very close to my mother as compared to my father because he used to be busy in work and somehow this gap created a distance between us.

The mistake
I used to like all the things which were forbidden for me like rash driving, not wearing the helmet and late night outings. I used to do all these things by making excuses at home.

I was studying in B Sc when that life-altering incident happened.

On the fateful day of October 13, 2011, I went out telling my family that I was going to a friend’s place for group studies. Next thing I remember is that, when I opened my eyes I found myself in the ICU. I was informed that I was admitted to the hospital 1 month and 18 days ago after I met with a massive accident on the highway.

Whatever my father has done for me is priceless

My father had retired then yet I don’t know how he managed to get me treated at one of the best hospitals of the city. I underwent a major neuro surgery and lost eyesight of my left eye as a piece of my scalp was removed. I needed a lot of post-operative treatment and care.

The road to recovery
I went into depression because what I lost was never going to come back to me. My helplessness became my identity and all I could do was think all the time that why this happened to me.

My family was there to console and support me but all their efforts were in vain as there was no change in me. My father wanted me to overcome this accident and so he decided to take me to Goa by flight. It was my first experience. My father was trying hard to make me happy and things started working out. This created a great transformation in our relationship. I started understanding how much he loves and cares for me and even today at the age of 65, he holds my hand while crossing the road like a child.  He helps me and supports me in every way. Now I am happily married with a 1.5-year old son.  My wife and I look after a small business we own since last four years.

Now I realize whatever parents do for us it is for our safety and betterment. Whatever my father has done for me is priceless and I have a dream to do something priceless for my father.
