Mystory@Harini: How I made my career- the challenges and successes

Initially, the thought of taking up Nursing as a profession came as a shock to me. I cried over it and strongly believed that it was not my cup of tea. Life moved on and I started working as a nurse. Though the journey was a roller coaster ride, I decided to make the maximum use of the opportunities I received. I participated in all the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities as participation was more important to me than winning. I toiled for 4 years and finally, hard work paved way for victory. I stood as the College Topper and received an overall development of my personality.

The best time at College was when I got a chance to go to Sweden for a students’ exchange programme. The fact that I had taken the road less traveled was what made a major difference in my life. Hostel life was a life changing experience for me and if given a chance today, I would definitely bunk more classes than I did when I was in college.

I feel that my college education has had immense contribution in the development of my career. After 4 years of college life, I joined the Pediatric Intensive Care unit as a Junior Staff where I got to apply my theoretical knowledge into an applied environment. I would give it to the quality education I received in college that I have been able to achieve success in my career. It was here where I learnt that Nursing stems from both Science and Arts.

Though in the initial years, I was not at all inspired to engage in Nursing; rather I took it as a curse upon myself; once I got into it, it changed my entire life. It has transformed me into the confident and empathetic person I am today.

Harini has completed her Bachelor’s in Nursing and is currently pursuing Master’s in the same area after having worked for four years as a Staff, followed by Clinical Instructor and finally a Tutor.
