Pune, often called the ‘The Oxford of the East’, is a popular education destination for both national and international students. The city has more than hundred educational institutes and nine universities.

The University of Pune is one of most famous universities in the country. The varsity offers more than 400 programmes in various disciplines at the graduate and postgraduate levels. Apart from it, there are various other top institutes such as Symbiosis Group of Institutes.

1. Symbiosis Society's College of Arts & Commerce (SCAC)

Established in 1983, SCAC is one of the several colleges of the Symbiosis Society. The college imparts courses in Arts, Commerce & Computer Science for the past twenty five years. India Today has ranked the college as one of the best arts colleges (2013).

Fees: The fee for a Certificate Course is Rs 10,000 per course. Fees for a Diploma Programmes are Rs 45,000.

2. Fergusson College (FC)

FC was founded in 1885 by the Deccan Education Society. Currently it is affiliated to the University of Pune. The campus is spread across 65 acres of land. Indian Independence movement leaders Tilak and Gokhale were the founders of Fergusson College.

 The college has two sections: Junior Wing and the Senior Wing. The Junior wing offers Plus 12 (+12) courses in Arts and Science streams while the Senior Wing offers Bachelors and Masters Degrees.

Some of the notable college alumni include two Indian Prime Ministers – PV Narasimha Rao and Vishwanath Pratap Singh, ad film maker Prahalad Kakkar, actress Smita Patil, apart from several other distinguished personalities.
