I started learning Android through YouTube tutorials. It took me almost a year (being an IT student) to create a decent app for Play Store, you can take more or less time depending on your learning capabilities and the amount of time you put into learning on daily basis. You don't need to know everything about Android Studio and Java to create Android Applications. Just watch some tutorials, start playing around with Android Studio, create some sample projects, and start with text views, buttons and you'll begin to understand what's happening with the code. You can do courses on Edx that provides free education, only you have to pay for the certification and that is optional. Also, you can do courses from Coursera by applying financial aid that gets accepted within 15 days.

Android Development is not outdated, but it is surely saturated because many people think and develop apps for Android and completely neglects the potential of iOS. I mean you can target highly potential audience in iOS which is willing to pay for the services they want to use. Whereas in Android, Play Store is stuffed with various similar apps. If you want to create an app for Android then make sure that it is something unique.
