The college is regarded as one of the best institute of asia for marine engineering and lot of companies visit college for campus placement. As per them training on board (ship) is quite entertraining and skillful experience you get a very good chance to learn about this field.

About 80-90% students were placed per year at IMU Kolkata. The highest salary is 25000 Usd and the lowest salary is 600 usd. Top recruiting companies are chevron, NYK, MOL, anglo eastern torm etc.
IMU is one of the best colleges for marine engineering in India. Placement-wise, the college offers lots of good chances. Almost 90% of every batch gets placed within the 4 years of the course.

The Indian Maritime University (IMU) conducts a national-level common entrance test for admission to BSc, BTech, UG Diploma, MTech, MBA, PhD courses offered at IMU campuses. IMU CET 2024 application forms will be out in April 2024 and the exam will be held in June 2024, tentatively.
Bachelor's Degree of at least three years in any discipline from any recognised University. In case of applying for IMU CET MBA 2024, applicants must have a minimum of a 50 percent aggregate in their Bachelor's degree. Final year candidates can also apply for the IMU CET MBA 2024 entrance examination.

Candidate must have completed bachelor's degree in any discipline with aggregate marks from recognised universities and a minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th/ 12th/ UG degree.

A Diploma in comparable engineering courses with at least 60% marks is a must. Candidates must have a grade of “C” or above from a recognised board. To be eligible, applicants must have a grade of “C” or above from an authorised university.
IMU Kolkata admission to all the programmes is conducted through the Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET) Only unmarried candidates, up to the age of 25 years are eligible to apply for BTech programme.

For the Admission to UG and PG courses is done on the basis of cut-off in IMU-CET entrance examination conducted by the university. Admission criteria for B.Tech. Marine Engineering is minimum of 60% marks in PCM and minimum of 50% in English in 10+2 and have qualified IMU-CET. These entrance exam is conducted by the university .Candidates under all categories must appear for the IMU's Common Entrance Test (CET) and qualify in order to be eligible for admission to this program. You have to score above 70% for getting a seat in IMU Kolkata because ther is very few seats available. The eligibility criteria is as pe University 10+2 or equivalent with minimum 60% aggregate in PCM and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th/12th examination.but with 70 %younhave to wait for the second list for your addmission. With 70 % in 12 th class you give IMU- CET entrance exam for scholarship and addmission .Admission to UG and PG courses is done on the basis of cut-off in IMU-CET entrance examination conducted by the university. Indian Maritime University, Kolkata conducted its 2019 placement drive by providing job opportunities to 145 students.
