Preparing for NID DAT using the best books can increase one's chances of getting a good score in the entrance exam. Some recommended books to prepare for NID DAT are mentioned below:

• Arihant's Ultimate Guide for NIFT/NID/IIFT Entrance Exam

• NIFT/NID/IIFT Entrance Exam Guide by RPH Editorial Board 

• Design drawing by Francis D. K. Ching

• Entrance Books and Test Series by AFAINDIA 

• Basic Rendering by Robert W. Gill 

In addition to these books, Candidates should focus on solving past exam papers, sample papers and mock tests regularly in order to ace the exam.

The NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is a two-step entrance exam. The candidate first appears in DAT Prelims. If shortlisted, the candidate has to next appear in DAT Mains.

  1. Here are some suggested study material for NID DAT 2025.
  2. Quantitative Aptitude - Physics and Maths syllabus up to Class 10.  
  3. Logical Reasoning - Step-by-Step Verbal Reasoning by Philip Kay, How to Pass Diagrammatic Reasoning Test by Mike Bryon.  
  4. GK and Current Affairs - Read newspapers daily for current affairs. For static GK, read any good GK book for NID.
  5. English - The Ultimate Guide for NIFT/NID/IIFT Entrance Exam by Arihant

On April 28, 2024, the National Institute of Design (NID) held the Studio Test for the B. Des programme. There was no online version of the Studio Test. It should be noted that, in contrast to M.Des applicants, B. Des candidates are not obliged to attend any interviews. On April 15, 2024, admit cards for the Studio Test became available. The candidate was required to bring their valid photo ID and their admit card to the exam centre on the day of the studio test. The GATE closing time for both the B.Des and M.Des courses is 9.30 am (30 minutes before the commencement of the exam), after which no candidate will be allowed inside the exam centre. 

So, make sure that you reach the exam centre at 8 am (the official reporting time).

Note that you may have to go through security checks and registration. If you are late, then you may face a lot of trouble, which is not a good thing to experience on exam day.

There is no negative marking in NID DAT Prelims.

So, the candidate may attempt all the questions. If the wrong answer is selected, the candidate won't be penalized. However, if the correct answer option is selected, the candidate may get some free marks.

Note that the DAT Prelims exam will be conducted in an OMR-based mode. The candidate will need a blue/black ball-point pen for filling the OMR sheet.

The NID Entrance Exam is considered among the toughest design entrance exam conducted in the country. In NID DAT, more weightage is given to subjective, drawing related questions. 

Experts and test takers state that the overall difficulty level of the NID DAT 2022 exam was moderately difficult.As per NID DAT 2021 exam analysis, the level of difficulty of the question paper for the BDes course was easy to moderate. The participating institutes of NID DAT 2025 offers B. Des and M.Des courses. The B. Des programme is available at five participating NIDs and has an intake capacity of 425 seats. Meanwhile, the M.Des programme is three NIDs and has a combined intake of 347 seats. Admission to both B. Des and M.Des courses will be through the NID DAT 2024 entrance exam. The seat allotment to the above courses wlll be based on respective merit lists which will be prepared considering weighted scores of DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

No, the design institute will neither release the question booklet nor any answer keys. As per instructions given in the Admission Handbooks for the B. Des and M.Des programs, the question booklet will not be released even upon request. The statement says - The DAT exams question booklet cannot be shared as it is highly subjective in nature, and may not be furnished, in the larger public interest. The candidate can check out the questions for NID published by coaching institutes; most of these questions will be memory-based and shared by test takers. Shiksha.
