You can't get a degree if you have any backlogs. You must clear all your subject exams within the time frame set by the university. If you have a backlog, your degree will be delayed for a year and you'll only be able to receive it with the next batch. 
 
Universities give students seven years to complete their graduation degree. If a student can't clear their backlogs within three years, the university will award them with NFTE (NOT FIT FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION).

The topics for GD are kept generic and based on current happenings, However for the PI the difficulty will depend largely on the panel interviewing you. They're mostly cheerful but at times have grilled students a lot. Just be honest, they catch it when someone is lying. Good Luck.
