Hi,
1. Refer to websites such as Internshala, Linkedin, Naukri, Indeed, letsintern, twenty19. Register your profile and track regularly for openings.
2. Prefer start-ups more than bigger companies because in an internship, the idea is to stretch and learn as much as possible. Post the internship, get a Linkedin recommendation from a manager or a letter of recommendation and certificate of appreciation/completion of sorts. Request for it. Don't be hesitant. It is very helpful.
3. Basic skills to know ( ould have more too, this is just example): HTML, Javascript, web designing and development.

College is just a platform. But, if you are in a good college like BITS, IIT NIY, definitely the environment of that colleges will help you brother. And of course, all this depends on you, how you will spend your four years of B.Tech. That will decide how good you will be in your stream. Colleges have their own syllabus and foundation, but it's not a big issue many of friends are doing so good that they learned so much in this field to make themselves better engineer. You also can learn by any means anywhere.

You can definitely get a good job if you are good at PHP, but the trends all over the world shows that PHP market value is declining gradually, hence it's not a good option to invest time in the same in the long term. Java, JavaScript, C#, C+ still have good market value.
But in some sense, it doesn't matter. You shouldn't try to predict what language is going to be most popular.
You should adapt as the market changes, and learn new languages as they become popular.
