100% DU Cutoff is Unfortunate: Kapil Sibal
The shocking news of 100% DU cutoff has got a new angle to it. Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal said, that 100 per cent cut off at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) is unbelievable and that it is unfortunate that some colleges have record cutoffs this year. Mr. Sibal also said that the government is on student's side and will support them.
Sibal also said that he was unhappy to learn about 100 per cent cutoff in one college and that the right to admission cannot be denied. According to him, ‘This is an attempt to keep science students away and science students cannot be stopped from studying commerce.'
Kapil Sibal also said that he was informed by the (Delhi University) Vice Chancellor that there is only one student in the entire list who has got a 100% mark in science. And chances are that he may never opt for commerce. The minister also said that he will request the Delhi University vice-chancellor to take note of it.
As a relief news for students, Delhi University vice-chancellor professor Dinesh Singh said that 100 per cent cut-off is unfortunate. First list is always cautious, other lists will come down and cutoffs will come down in the subsequent lists. On the contrary, SRCC principal PC Jain, said that 100 per cent cutoff is justified and that the college has been adhering to the practice for many years.
It is notable that Lady Sri Ram College, known for its commerce course, has placed its cutoff at 100 per cent. This shows a ten percent increase in cutoffs, as compared to the fist list in 2010. This year even the DU Cutoff for science stream is on a record high.
