University of West Indies (UWI), St Augustine campus, Trinidad & Tobago, is offering ‘Know India’ programme to its students, under its newly launched ‘Understanding global cultures’ course. The course pedagogy of the program also includes students’ visit to India each year to learn about the know-how of country's culture, heritage and development.

A 16-member delegation from UWI comprising teachers and students visited the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) recently during a study excursion tour of India. The launch of the course was announced during the visit. To facilitate exchange programmes for faculty, joint research and seminars, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will soon be signed between UWI and IGNOU, Prof. Gopinath Pradhan, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU told to TOI.

All those students who will visit India as part of the programme, will have to bear expenses on their own.

It could be the first-of-its-kind initiative by a university providing overseas students such an opportunity to understand the Indian cultural heritage. Read more
